September by Tim Newlin

By Tim Newlin • Sep 1st, 2011

September is an important month that marks the start of the Autumn season in the Northern Hemisphere and the beginning of Spring in the South. September is one of four months with only 30 days, and this year Sept. 11 marks the 10th year in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. September is the 9th month on our calendar, but it has not always been that way. In Latin “septem” means “seven”. September was in fact the 7th month of the Roman Calendar until 153 BC. September is the month in the North when grains are harvested and stored (and traditionally when beers were brewed). The September birthstone is the sapphire and the birth flowers are Aster, Morning glory, and the Forget-me-not.
