Murals DC Project Replaces Illegal Graffiti with Artistic Works

The Murals DC project started by Jim Graham, a Washington DC City Council Member, uses known DC graffiti artists to mentor and train young taggers, instilling a sense of community and pride in their work. It is an effort to replace illegal graffiti with artistic works, to revitalize sites within the community and to teach young people the art of spray painting.

Watch Out for Trolls!

In 1959 Thomas Dam was an unemployed danish fisherman. With no money to buy a Christmas gift for his daughter Lajla, he used his family’s carving talents to make a gift. He created a wooden, troll doll modeling it after his own mirror image. 51 years later the trolls are going to Hollywood. On June 22nd DreamWorks Animation Inc. announced a deal with Dam Things from Denmark to use the popular Good Luck Troll dolls in a major animated film.



The Lipstick Effect

Take a purplish-red seaweed dye, add fine red clay, iron oxide (rust), henna, iodine, and a poisonous alcohol sugar called bromine mannite, then and add a slimy lump of stone-crushed dead beetles and ants, stir well into a sticky soup, then use your finger to carefully color your lips, allow to dry, apply again, and repeat the process several times until the toxic color sinks deep into your skin. It not only sounds disgusting, but it is almost sure to make you sick.



How Earthquakes Happen

Total disorientation, jumbled sensory input, loss of balance, and temporary mental blackout – that’s what an earthquake does to you and it is almost impossible not to panic and to do the right thing when a quake strikes. I have felt it, and anyone who has can tell you it is like nothing you’ve ever experienced before and never want to again.
