Teacher Hobbiest Judy Baum – Digital Photography

By Teachers.Net Community

Spotlight on Judy Baum and her hobby, digital photography

Judy Baum, aka jennyi on Teachers.Net, lives in Mountain Home, Idaho. She is now on her third year of retirement. She taught 36 years in grades 2-4.  The first 15 years were on the Mountain Home Air Force Base, finishing her career in Mountain Home. Her hobby is digital photography. Judy used Olympus SLR digital cameras to capture the following, beautiful photos.

Judy says: Using a camera causes you to be much more appreciative of your surroundings. You start seeing things instead of just looking around. You discover that ordinary things can be beautiful and unusual. The beauty of digital photography is you can snap away and always use the delete key, which I often do since “film” is cheap.

1. The spider

This cat spider (see the ears?) was so tiny it was only when looking through my macro lens that I could tell for sure that it was a teeny baby spider. Only after putting the photo on the computer could I see the detail, which was exciting.

2. Lorikeet (colorful bird)

It is fun watching birds and animals. It had been raining which caused this Lorikeet to preen. There is nothing worse than a bad hair day.

3. Chicken Rose

While at the Portland Rose Garden I hadn’t realized I had taken a photo of this “chicken” until I uploaded the photos to my computer. It is great to discover you captured more than you realize.

4. Lighthouse

It is hard to find anything more beautiful than the Oregon Coast to photograph. This is a photo of the Heceta Lighthouse above Florence.

5. Eagle

I saw this eagle and its mate at Yellowstone. The  mate was sitting on the nest while this majestic eagle was proudly guarding the nest.

6. Heart Rose

I saw this rose heart at the same garden where I saw the “chicken” rose, but it was just a fluke too. It was mixed in with all the other normal roses.
