Job Description

As a Preschool Teacher at the Schilit Nursery School of B’nai Israel Congregation, you are responsible for developing a careful and creative program suitable for preschool children, employing a variety of educational techniques (storytelling, educational play, media etc.) to teach children and observing each child to help them improve their social competencies and build self-esteem. As a Preschool teacher, you must have a great love and patience for children. It is expected that you will have knowledge of current best practices and preschool educational methods as well as the ability to engage them and earn their trust and attention. The goal of Schilit Nursery School staff and teachers is to contribute to the healthy mental and emotional development of the child, so they can more easily acclimate in the next level of education.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare, coordinate and support weekly and daily classroom lesson plans.
    Maintain progress reports, regularly communicating with parents to share development information.
  • Take an active part in the planning, arranging and presenting programs for festival celebrations and other functions of the Nursery School.
  • Participate in the planning of Nursery School activities and in the implementation of the curriculum, preparation of instructional material and other related tasks, when called upon to do so by the Nursery School Director.
  • Attend Staff Orientation, Training Sessions, Staff Meetings, Back-to-School Night and Professional Days.
  • Attend to the personal hygiene of students, as needed.
  • Prepare, attend and participate in parent-teacher conferences for each student and provide alternative conferences when personal conference cannot be scheduled.
  • Meet as needed with parents and or Nursery School Director 1:1 for any additional consultations regarding the child and or lessons and activities related to the students.
  • Provide a safe and stimulating environment that facilitates learning
  • Document significant phone calls, accidents, parent meetings, and observations and alert the Nursery School Director and administrative staff to significant problems
  • Organize and supervise play and work activities (for example reading, cooking, music, dancing, etc.)
  • Utilize online communication tools designated by the Nursery School Director to post classroom information including but not limited to the weekly “Peek at the Week” (description of weekly classroom activities), photos of the students and flyers of importance.

All lessons, programs, and activities must meet ADA (the Americans with Disabilities Act) requirements and allow for the respect and dignity of all students participating.

 

WHAT MATTERS TO US:

EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education
    3-5 years of experience working in a preschool or nursery school environment
  • Prior experience working as a teacher, counselor or individual responsible for Jewish learning strongly desired
  • Knowledge of best practices in early childhood education
  • Ability to lift a child and supervise children well

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a collaborative, team-oriented style.
  • Love and respect for children
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Deep appreciation and knowledge of Jewish values, culture, and tradition a plus.
  • A commitment to continued education in Early Childhood Development
