This is a substitute teacher position on an as needed basis. Scheduling of hours will be intermittent. Preference will be given to those candidates willing and able to work 6-8 hour shifts.
Assisting the lead teacher in: implementing activities and routines for a developmentally appropriate program in a child care center;
Providing care for physical needs of clientele; maintaining a safe and sanitary environment; performing related work.

Contributes to Child Care Program by: 80% E
Assisting Lead Teacher in implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities through learning centers which include art, music, physical activities, language and literacy, sensory and self-help according to NAEYC Accreditation Standards.
Assisting Lead Teacher in maintaining a physical environment to promote growth and development of physical, cognitive, language, creative, and social/emotional skills.
Assisting Lead Teacher in observing and recording children’s developmental levels and progress in all areas of development.
Assisting Lead Teacher in developing a partnership with parents by building a positive relationship with parents.
Assisting Lead Teacher in caring for the needs of children in personal hygiene areas including feeding, diapering/toileting, dressing, lifting and carrying children; and administering medications.
Contribute to Team Environment by: 20% M
Assisting Lead Teacher in following policies as set forth in the Staff and Parent Handbooks of the Center, U of I Staff/Faculty Handbook, and NAEYC Accreditation Criteria.
Assisting Lead Teacher in maintaining safe environment and sanitary facilities.
Participating in staff meetings, in-service training and continuing education.
EXPERIENCE: reading and understanding written instructions.
PHYSICAL ABILITY TO: work around small children; lift and carry 50 lbs., stand, sit, run and climb stairs.
Applicants will be required to pass an extensive background investigation before being hired into this position and provide proof of a current TB test.
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Some knowledge of: Normal development of children from three weeks to preschool age; CPR and First Aid procedures; developmentally appropriate methods used to care for/teach young children; NAEYC philosophy and standards.
Previous experience in a child care center or environment working with young children.
Good communication skills.
