No, not finishing your MA in History won't be a negative.
Being a history teacher, however, will be. As another poster
mentioned, the social studies market is MAJORLY overcrowded.
Many areas its literally 1000 or more applicants per jobs,
even in areas like North Carolina and Nevada that have
shortages of most other types of teachers. Even the coaching
thing doesn't really help much any more. Even the private,
Christain (also low paying) schools you say you want will be
hard to get into in social studies.
I actually make a point to talk to new Social Studies and
English teachers every year at my school (when there are
some). I ask them about their job search. They either knew
someone in the district, like a Principal at another school,
board member, maybe were related to a veteran teacher who has
a good repuations, or something like that. Or, they had
something AMAZING on their record. I don't mean a 4.0 GPA.
One history teacher at my school has a Bronze Star and two
Purple Hearts earned in Afghanistan and Iraq. Another has a
graduate degree from an Ivy League school. One English
teacher at another school in the district was an Ambassador to
a couple African nations. Yes, a Presidentially appointed, US
Ambassador, who wanted a quiet life teaching. I mean
something amazing on your resume. Otherwise, don't count on
it!
