Quite right. Where I live, most of the teacher aides are
fully certified teachers that weren't able to land a full time
teaching position yet.
The schools also want to be sure they're getting high-quality
staff that are 100% competant in serving the school and
meeting the needs of children.
Unfortunately, because the job is part-time and the benefits
are low, they do get a lot of applicants who do not take the
job or the interview process seriously. They think it's a
quick job that anyone off the street can snap up. The school
probably just wants to be very careful about who they're
getting. And who can blame them.
Best of luck to you... and don't let the big panel scare you
away-- it's a great job if you're the right kind of person. :)
