Hey Dan, as a fellow "Michigander" I moved out in 1996 and I
would say that teaching in Michigan probably is slim right now
with the population moving out. Many schools have closed or
merged. Special ed is a need as well as English. There is a
shortage of hearing and speech educators (or specialists) for
the school districts. ESOL is growing. Do you know a vocation
    that you could teach?

I've taught in South Carolina, Virginia, and now Tennessee. I
would have gladly stayed in Virginia for a career but had to
move to Tennessee because of my fathers illness. Virginia has
pay and benefits like other states such as Illinois. So the
top states in this South East area are Georgia, Virginia,
Tennessee. NC has openings but the funding is poor, Kentucky
has a mile of rules and red tape for certification. Florida is
good depending on district, but not many openings in prime
districts. New Orleans is in need.

Also a point to consider in the prospects of employment in
this economy many near retirement teachers are hanging on to
thier jobs or returning to the classroom for the money
(instead of retirement) so they will be in line with all new
    teachers.
