Does he make that now? I have several friends in the skilled
trades and their incomes have taken a hit. They're basically
working part-time, since there are so few construction projects
    right now.

BS! I work 8 hours a day, and spend an hour max during the
weekend getting ready for the week. I discipline myself and keep
to a schedule. Most of the teachers I know working 10-12 hour
days spend half the day BSing or doing WAY too much. I'm a good
teacher, and I know I could do more, but at the end of the day
this is a job and I have my own family to take care of. I work my
contractual hours, which would be 7.25, and then round it out to
about 8 coming a bit early and staying a bit late. That doesn't
include the mandatory 1 hour weekly department meeting every week.
I utilize my prep period properly, by prepping for class and
staying disciplined. I get my stuff done and that's that. It can
be done, if you organize myself. I basically work 42 hours per
week when we're in school and I make sure I cap myself at that
because I have a life outside of school. Anything else, you
volunteer, and not volunteering doesn't make you a bad teacher!
