    Dear Sped,

    I found the following statement you made interesting:

    If Bank of America fired you from a branch in NYC, they wouldn't hire
    you in Boston, etc. etc. etc.

    That may be true. However, if you went to Wachovia, they probably
    wouldn't even check your references from Bank of America. If they did,
    they would probably say you worked there and give the dates. You would
    not be blackballed from every bank in the country.

    If you are fired from a school, the information goes down to the
    Professional Standards Office and gets listed in a large database. This
    datebase is available to all schools and districts. I know you deny
    that this is a big problem and talk about how all sorts of people have
    gotten hired from your school who were fired from other schools.
    However, the matter does come up and you have to explain/defend
    yourself. This is totally unfair and it should be illegal for any
    principal to wreak havoc on a teacher's career.
