Re: Where in the World Do You Get the Nutty Idea
Posted by anon on 7/02/09

the teacher can't draw UI? That's crazy. Of course this teacher can
draw it. The least the teacher can do is contact his or her state
employment office. If somehow he or she is denied, then it's time to
    take legal action.

The fact is the OP is an at-will employee, and the employer can get rid
of him or her at any time and for any reason. At least this person
didn't do the stupid thing many public school teachers are "asked" or
forced to do--resign--in exchange for a "good" eval. The only reason
school districts do this is to not have to pay UI, since resigning is
considered a "quit" by law. Of course there is no guarantee of a "good"
eval anyway, and doesn't help the teacher anyway, because any teacher
let go--fired--almost always cannot ever work again in any school
district in the United States or most private schools because of
blacklisting by state licensing boards. If if they resign, many states
force the teachers to reveal the resignations. Teachers may be able to
get a license in another state, but because school districts force
teachers to reveal terminations or resignations they legally don't have
to reveal, they simply don't hire the teachers. Terminated teachers
very, very rarely make it to an interview and very, very seldom are
    hired elsewhere.

It's a giant scandal, teacher terminations, the vast majority of which
are not as a result of "incompetence" or harm to kids, but rather as a
result of vindictive or illegal acts by administrators, and blacklisting
should be outlawed. But teachers never organize to fight injustices.

You are never told of the filth in schools and school districts when you
go for your education degree. The entire system is not about children
    at all but about politics.
