Post: TeacherInsight - Thoughts & Advice

Posted by Miss Independent on 6/23/09

Hello! I wanted to ask everyone what they thought of the
Gallup test named Teacher Insight. If you haven't heard of
it, basically most districts use it as a preliminary
"teacher personality" test. Perhaps it would be more
accurate to say it is used as a screening tool. You can
apparently "fail" the test, but you do not receive the
    scores to the test.

I've taken it before and I was honest, but for those
positions, I wondered if I was not called back based upon
    the test results alone.

The test is on a likert scale from strongly disagree to
strongly agree. Imagine questions such as, "I always prefer
Mexican food to Chinese food." A few questions later you
read a statement such as, "I sometimes eat Chinese food."
It's almost as if though you're being tested on consistency.
(Obviously, though these questions have an education slant,
but I couldn't remember how to precisely word them.)

I've heard that to pass the test you have to choose strongly
agree or disagree and choose student centered response, but
that's the most information I've found.

What do you think of the test? What advice would you give to
others who will take the test soon?

I have a job offer and was getting ready to go to a
different city and sign the contract, but hiring procedures
have just recently added the TeacherInsight survey as part
of its hiring process. I'm a bit nervous as you can imagine.

Any advice at all can and will help.
