It is possible to be teacher centered and student centered at the same time. Just because you are student centered does not mean you make accomidations that are ridiculous, nor does it mean that it is anybody's business what another student is doing...being fair is the obsolete concept on the planet simply because nothing is ever fair. Basically, you just need to BS to pass that test...the answers you give need to jibe with that of an understanding, student centered person. Mark is right in that they lose alot of these people because the district itself is not that way....but the reality is that all school districts are organizations. Organizations run a certain way, and if you are too dumb to understand that, then working is probably not for you. I agree with the student centered approach, there are many ways to impletment it without making waves, but alot of the times people do not realize that the teaching aspect of their job is just half of the battle...the other half is being a good colleague, supporting staff and administration, working to be an asset. I think that when a teacher is too student centered, they get disillusioned. Nobody here is going to reinvent the wheel nomatter how hard you try.
