Post: Unemployed teacher in S.W. Michigan

Posted by Jodi on 6/30/09

It is impossible to get an elementary teaching job in
Southwest lower Michigan. The number of applicants for one
job is 387. YES! REALLY! I have had five interviews, and
no luck. Last October, I was hired as a first year teacher
in a high poverty district (where I did my internship),
however an elementary school in the district had closed,
and I was pink-slipped. Now I'm back at square one. I want
to go back to get my masters degree in educational
leadership, however, I just found out that Obama's single
mother's grant in Michigan is only available for mom's
that have not worked, have a H.S. diploma, and have sat on
their ass and collected state funding while watching soap-
operas. What is that about? I am unable to recieve any
kind of federal aid, pell grant, or any kind of funding
(because I have a B.S.) I am pissed. With this free money
they (Lazy Ass moms) are able to get the same degree I
have now. Where is the justice in that? They had the same
    choice I had.
