    Do you think you can get permanent disability? If your heart is that bad that just thinking of grading something can
    give you a chest pain, maybe teaching is not for you.

    In general, teaching is getting worse for teachers. Since I started looking for a job in the 90's, the standard class load
    has risen from 5 to 6 classes in high school, the small plan book squares are out and full lesson plans (typed, of
    course) are in, there are millions of rules regulating how you decorate your bulletin board. You are supposed to make
    special lessons for every child, including those with all of the multiple intelligences, ESL kids, those with classifications,
    those who are gifted and those who are not the sharpest knives in the drawer but are not special ed. Meanwhile, the
    kids are almost unengageable thanks to teeny cell phones they can hide on their lap and text with, and teeny
    headphones attached to teeny ipods they can listen to music with. I've heard of administrators that will back teachers
    up if they get into an argument while confiscating these things, but I've also heard of unicorns and leprechauns. I've
    never actually seen either one.

    My point: even in a better situation, it's still stressful enough to cause a heart attack. Don't be like that little old lady in
    the commercial who falls on the floor and has chest pains and can't get up.
