Post: Should I quit

Posted by Confused! on 9/29/09

I am in a situation this school year that I am assuming is
carrying over from last year. I was in a terrible bullying
situation by my department chair and the assistant
principal last year. I along with most of the sped dept
was tortured by this evil bitter woman (dept chair). It
was so bad that we tried to get a petition going to have
her removed. We received no assistance. We were told that
we would be having a meeting with the acting principal and
she would handle the situation. Well, nothing happened.
So, when it was decided that some of the teachers would
need to go to the new school, I volunteered. I knew that
it was still not going to be the "best situatin" because
the principal for the new school was my old principal from
my current school. I'll just say that his appointment made
a lot of other admins with more experience very upset,
they even tried to get him removed from his position. He
is very unprofessional and a slacker to say the least.

Anyway, at the new school, I am starting to be treated
unfair by the assistant principa this time who was the
instructional coach at old school and principal's right
hand man. To make a long story short. I was told that I
may be put on 3 observations and given a PDP. I am tenured
and should only receive one observation. This was said to
me out of the blue with less than a month into new school
year. I then asked why and he gave me a bunch of bogus
reasons. I had never been formally observed and when I was
informally observed, he told me that he thoughtI was doing
fine. So, out of the blue he just one day hits me with
this! I then asked why and he said that it was to help
me!! I then tried to ask if there was anything that I
could work on and if so, why wasn't I informed. He just
    nixed me off!

Anyway, I had a horrible year last year that affected my
health. I was stressed so bad that I was having anxiety
and heart palpitations. I am starting to have the same
problems. I am actually off work now and have been off for
a couple of weeks. My heart is enlarged and I am drained!

I am thinking about asking to be released out of my
contract after leave for medical reasons, but I am afraid
that I may be blackballed and given negative references,
again, I have never been formally observed and he never
wrote anything down and this was a couple of weeks before
    I left on sick leave.

I know I am rushing and may have left out some
information, but is it best for me to come back and be
treated unfair again and risk my health by trying to get a
lawyer or just leave this toxic school system?

Also, my school is doing a lot of illegal things dealing
with sped students. For instance at the beginning of the
school year and as of now. We have no 10th spec ed
teachers. The students are in the class with only reg ed
teachers and their IEPs say either resource or collab. It
is a nightmare. The 9th grade teachers have to take the
slack and do the IEPs for students we do not even know or
    teach.

Please give opinions. I am still stressed!
