I have to apply for 5 jobs a week for Unemployment. Today I
applied for: 2 short term maternity jobs, (one 90 minutes
away, one closer), a sub list position 45 minutes away, a
part-time job in a "therpeutic teaching" setting, my old
pre-teaching job as a package inspector, a job as a
customer service agent at a company that sells religious
icons and vibrators (yes, that's right), and a job for a
paper-maker trainee. Oh yeah, and earlier, a job for an
adjunct position I'm not really qualified for and a job
where you need only an AA and I have an MA.

If I get a single interview from all these, I'll be
shocked, even though I wrote impassioned cover letters
about how I love religious icons and vibrators (OK, I
didn't phrase it like that), how I loved my old job, and
how much I've always wanted to learn to make paper. I think
it may have to do with wood and pulp.

This time last year I was a permanent teacher in a public
school system making $50,000 a year with great benefits.
Now I'm reduced to begging for jobs in the pulp factory.

Oh, well, the Christmas department store jobs should open
up soon.
