X Sequencing Academic Objectives:
The student will be able to sequence the life cycle of a penguin and then the student will create a penguin and write three sentences to describe their penguin. Standard(s):
K 4.1: Generate ideas for writing by using techniques such as participating in conversations and looking at pictures.K4.7: Use uppercase and lowercase letters.
K 4.8: Use appropriate letter formation.
Lesson Introduction: The lesson will begin by doing a KWL chart about penguins. After the class discusses the chart we will use the internet to visit various sites about penguins. We will watch the life cycle of a penguin, see the penguin habitat, and watch penguins through a live web cam. The class will sequence the life cycle of penguin on sentence strips. When finished they will get in groups of two and take turns tracing each others feet on black construction paper. The students will cross their feet to make their penguin and cut out a nose and feet from orange construction paper, next they will paint the eyes and a snowy habitat for their penguin. When they have finished they must write three sentences to describe their penguin.

Instructional Process
As a class we will visit the following websites to study and learn information about penguins. The students will use the information from the websites to complete the life cycle of a penguin and to write about the penguin they make. They will use the facts from the websites to write their sentences.

Homework or extension activity: The students will complete the life cycle of penguins and then they will make a penguin and use the information from the websites to write three sentences about their penguin.
Assessment/Reflection: (Strategy/Result)
The life cycle will be taken and graded. If they sequence it in the correct order they will get a 100. If they sequence it in the wrong order it will be given back for them to correct. The sentences will be graded by two stars. One star is given for spacing and the second star is for making correct letter sounds. Two star papers get a reward sent home and it will be hung on the "Wrapping up Good Work" wall.
