#4263. Reading / Writing Lesson Sheet

Reading/Writing, level: 1-2
Posted Wed Nov 19 19:06:22 PST 2008 by Donna (Donna).
Reading / Writing Lesson
http://www.k-3teacherresources.com,
Materials Required: A3 photocopied sheet below
Activity Time: Over 2 x 20 min sessions
Concepts Taught: Engaging with words

Over 2 sessions...

Using a plain A3 paper (or copy the one from the link below), fold it into four sections.

Each section then becomes an area in which the child works.

After an 'experience' eg. art project, weekend, activity, holiday. etc, the child draws a picture in the top left section.

In the top right section they dictate a sentence to an adult about their picture. The adult writes the sentence clearly and large enough for the words to be copied and cut out later.

The top right section (dictated sentence) then gets photocopied. (I used to be able to place 2 of these sections in the photocopier at once)

In another session the sentence and picture is reviewed and the child cuts up the words from the copied sentence and glues it back together across the bottom sections. The top right section is left for the child to review while pasting.

This could be made more difficult by covering the top right hand section while the child is pasting.

The finished product is an A3 page with a picture in the top left corner, dictation in the top right corner, and the dictation cut and pasted across the bottom.

Them make these up into a class book for all to share.

TO HELP YOU WE HAVE MADE UP A FREE SHEET WHICH CAN BE ENLARGED ONTO AN A3 PAGE....

This reading / writing sheet would also be ideal to use along with the language experience approach.
