Tenth Grade Geometry
Lesson Plan: SetsTopic: Vocabulary Terms
Standards Address: SOL Number G.4-3 (Geometry four)
General Goal(s): Mathematics – Sets
◊ The student will familiarize themselves with the different mathematical vocabulary terms associated with sets and angles.
◊ Student will also learn the differences in shape and angle.
Specific Objective:
◊ The students will complete G.4-3
◊ The student will define vocabulary terms on page 227 of the Glencoe Geometry Book, beginning with acute angles and draw an example of each.
◊ The teacher will have student come to the board and draw example of each angle.
Required Materials: Glencoe Geometry Book and Calculator
Anticipatory Set:
◊ A small angle will be place on the desk of each group covered with a paper that says, “What am I?” “What do I have?” and the students will answer the questions on the paper and write their name on the paper. Teacher will collect it and later have the student write the correct answer they found in the book on the board.
Step-By-Step Procedure:
◊ Teacher will go to the board and do the first term on page 227,
Vocabulary Terms Meaning Angle
Acute Triangle A triangle is that all three angles are acute, where each angle measure less than 90 degrees.
Independent Practice:
◊ Student will turn to page 227 in the Glencoe Geometry Book and make a chart like the chart the teacher has shown on the board in their notebook. Fill it in with the correct vocabulary term, meaning and angle. Teacher will access student with making the proper shapes.
Closure:
◊ Students will fill out their yellow Exit Slip and drop it in the basket before leaving classroom.
Assessment Based on Objective:
◊ Teacher will walk around and make a note of what each student have done in their notebook and if they understand the concept on each angle.
Adaptations (For students will learning disabilities):
◊ Student with ADHD will be given the first nine terms out of eighteen on a chart with the page number to find the definition. Each time student is finish with the nine terms student will take it to the teacher to look over and the teacher will give the student the next nine terms.
◊ Student with Autism, Teacher or Para Professional will read definition from the Graphic Organizer and student will indicate what cut out figure should be paste beside the term.
Extensions (For Gifted Students):
◊ Gifted student will do Vocabulary Terms on page 274 G.5. Beginning with altitude ending with median. Student will give meaning and example of each term in the same manner as the teacher has shown on the board.
Possible Connections to other subjects:
◊ In Science class student will learn about degrees, Social Studies when finding Longitude, and Latitude on map degrees and angles are used. Also in everyday conversation, example; Today Susan drove parallel to me on her to work.
