#1169. What's your lucky number

Mathematics, level: Elementary
Posted Wed Jul 14 15:43:51 PDT 1999 by Rebecca (RJCED).
Kindergarten, CT
Materials Required: Dice, crayons, pencil, lucky number recording sheet (easy to make)
Activity Time: 20 mins
Concepts Taught: number recognition, writing numbers, graphing probablity

What's you lucky number???

Lucky number recording sheet is a simple graph with the numbers 1-6 on the bottom.
Play: Roll 1 die and record that number in the appropriate space on the recording sheet. For example, I roll a 5. I color one box in above the number five. Then I roll a two. I color the box above the number two. Keep rolling and recording each time until one number makes it to the top of the paper. Color that number with crayon and that is your lucky number.

Discussion: Was your answer the same as your prediction? Why or Why not? If the activity was repeated, do you think the results would be the same?

Follow- up: After you play the game make a class graph of the student's lucky numbers.
