#1188. It's not what you say--It's the way you say it!

other, level: all
Posted Wed Jul 21 23:57:12 PDT 1999 by Brenda (sparky@joymail.com).
Lanier Elementary School, Dallas, TX
Materials Required: copies of nursery rhymes, small slips of paper
Activity Time: 20 - 30 min, depending on class size
Concepts Taught: Tone of voice is important.

It’s not what you say—It’s the way you say it!

Preparation: Write a nursery rhyme on the board or make a copy for each student. I recommend: Mary Had A Little Lamb, Jack Be Nimble, Little Miss Muffet. Write emotions on slips of paper. For example: scared, timid, sexy, angry, shy, sad, nervous, etc. Pass out a slip of paper to each student. Each student has to read the nursery rhyme aloud to the class. They will read it with the emotion that is on the slip of paper. The rest of the class has to guess the emotion they were using. Encourage the reader to avoid using facial expressions.
