#1227. Accounting Monopoly Simulation

other, level: Senior
Posted Mon Aug 2 11:12:46 PDT 1999 by Gayle R. VanderZee (gvderzee@remc8.k12.mi.us).
South Christian High School, Grand Rapids, MI (USA)
Materials Required: Accounting Forms and Monopoly Boards, Cars & Game Pieces (no money!)
Activity Time: 3 days to 3 weeks
Concepts Taught: Journalizing, Posting & Worksheets

With students in groups of 3 or 4, have them play the traditional Monopoly game with no cash making journal entries instead. This can be started with the general journal and in later rounds they can make up and use special journals. Generally they play and journalize for one day, post the next day, and make a trial balance and/or worksheet the third day. Of course, there is no answer key so they also have to find and correct their own errors.

I have several variations that I used depending on the Accounting abilities, discipline challenges, and interest of the class. E-mail me for more information as well as instructions for making the accounting forms I use. (All based on the extra forms that come with most textbooks.)
