Here is the letter I send home with my first graders on the first day of school:
Dear ____________________,
Welcome to your new classroom! Coming home with you today is
a surprise bag~ full of different objects that have special
meanings. Empty the bag with your Mom or Dad or another adult
and let them read each special clue as you try to find the
object that goes with the sentence. Remember- this is your
classroom. It is a special place where YOU belong.

• This is to remind you that you can come to me anytime
you need help or just want to talk.
(lifesaver)

• This is to remind you that you are LOVED by many
special people in your life. (chocolate kiss)

• This is to remind you that it is OKAY to make
mistakes... that is the best way to learn. (eraser)

• This to remind you to always shine by trying to do your
very best every time. (shiny star)

• This is to remind you to always help dry someone else’s
tears when you see them crying. (tissue)

• This is soft and will remind you that your classroom is
always full of soft feelings and words. (cotton ball)

• This is to remind you to help heal your friend’s hurt
feelings. (bandage)

 This is to remind you to put your arms around another person
everyday and share a hug! (rubber band)

• This is to remind you to “pick out” the good things in
yourself and others. (toothpick)

• This is to remind you that we all stick together in our
classroom and always help each other out! (sticker)

there is no one else just like
YOU!!!!! (the penny)
