Materials Required: Picture of Coconut Tree, alphabet stickers, a way to bind a small book, laminator or plactic covers
Activity Time: 30 minutes on several days
Concepts Taught: Name & letter recognition

I like to use book themes to help boost the children's self-esteem and awareness. We read the book "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" several times before starting the actual book. I have a picture of a coconut tree or the children may draw one...then add their favorite letters going up the coconut tree. They do not have to be in order...just know the letters they are using. Slightly older students may want to spell their name or the name of a friend. I like them to use their own name. I then paste these pages on construction paper & add "James told Sally and Sally told Fred..." Each time the book is different. We create a cover & date it. I laminate the pages & bind them. Sometimes I let the children check the books out. This way they can share with their family their school life.
