Materials Required: Literature samples, pencil and paper
Activity Time: 30-45 minutes
Concepts Taught: Setting = time and place

Discuss setting as being the time and place of a story.Define time as time of day, year, season, week, month, period of history, etc. Identify setting of several pieces of literature
Pass out a piece of lined paper to each student. Fold in half hamburger bun style. On the top half, draw a clock face on the left corner. On the bottom half draw a house on the upper left corner. In the upper half, each student writes a time that a story could take place. In the bottom half, they do the same with a place.
Collect the papers, and rip them in half. shuffle up the time portions and give one to each student. do the same with the place portions. Each student then writes a short story with the setting he/she has been given. Make sure you share them!
