#1573. I Spy

Language, level: Elementary
Posted Tue Feb 15 04:44:46 PST 2000 by Thad Schmenk (thadsenei@hotmail.com).
Matsuyama Board of Education, Japan
Materials Required: none
Activity Time: about 10 minutes
Concepts Taught: teaching simple nouns and adjectives

I Spy, a simple easy warm-up.

I have posted this simple idea and old game not for its sophistication, but just to remind you that many childhood games can be twisted into great foreign language games.

I Spy can easily be incorporated into the language classroom. This game is especially good for beginner language students who have only mastered simple adjectives and classroom objects.

If you do not know the game already, here are the directions.

The teacher starts by saying, "I spy something blue. The students must guess what the teacher has "spied." If necessary, continue to give clues. After one or two times, let one of the students "spy" something.
