#1649. We are all STARS

other, level: Elementary
Posted Tue Mar 28 20:38:44 PST 2000 by Stephanie (aintUb8utiful@aol.com).
bilingual/early childhood major, NMSU
Materials Required: Yellow construction paper stars with maybe a little glitter around the edges, markers, crayons, etc.
Activity Time: depends on the age group
Concepts Taught: This is something that makes everyone feel good

Prepare the stars the night before. Have the students review some compliments to hel brainstorm ideas with peers. They must write their name in the middle of the star. If you have say 25 students have them pass it 5 persons to the left. Upon each recieve, the students will put one compliment on one side of the star. By the time the student reaches his/her star it will contain compliments that maybe they have never know were recognized.

I feel that this is a project that works with many ages. I did this in college, tried it on elementary age students, and even had high school kids do it. This project allows the students to feel proud of who they are. Self esteem stars are another name. On the days they feel bad, have them wear their star so you know that they need maybe another compliment or some recognition. Good luck and hope you have as much fun as I did when I did it.
