Concepts Taught: five parts of a story

Rationale:
The purose of this lesson is to provide students with an activity that will help them better understand the five parts of a story.

Objectives:
TLW be able to recognize all five parts of a story.
TLW be able to explain the concept of the building blocks of a story.

Materials:
An outline of the building blocks of a story(An example will be provided for you)
A story

Procedure:
The object of the building blocks of a story is to place one word per block. Since I am unable to draw blocks here I will use lines. The building blocks will look like this:

Now in the blocks you will put the following:
1. Name of the main character.
2. Two adjectives describing the main character.
3. Three words that either name the setting or describe it.
4. State the problem of the story in five words.
5. Five words that tell the first chain of event.
6. Six words that tell the second chain of event.
7. Seven words that tell the third chain of event.
8. Eight words that talk about the solution to the story.


*You can adjust the building blocks to fit your story. This is what I really like about the idea!!
