Each Monday I assign a current events topic for my students to find out about. On Friday, their short written reports are presented to the class. The topics vary, according to units of study in class. For example, for map studies, the topic deals with local news and builds over several weeks to world news. We locate places mentioned on our class map, and discuss relative locations. My students love this. Other topics have included: weather, medicine, health, sports, holiday events, animals, good news.
