Materials Required: Cloze worksheets (included), noun charts and slips of paper with nouns on them
Activity Time: 45 minutes
Concepts Taught: Nouns

Objectives:
§ Students will demonstrate understanding of context by filling in a cloze worksheet with a word bank.
§ Students will demonstrate understanding of types of nouns by separating them into categories on a chart.
§ Students will practice small motor skills by pasting words onto a chart.
§ Students will use nouns in sentences by filling out the second worksheet.
Materials Needed:
§ Cloze worksheet -- 10 sentences with blanks and a word bank
§ Cloze worksheet -- 10 sentences with blanks where nouns belong (no word bank)
§ Pencils
§ NOUNS paper with three columns
§ Slips of paper with nouns written on them (4 people, 4 places, 4 things)
§ Glue
Preparation:
§ Make (or copy) worksheets for each student (both worksheets).
§ Make (or copy) NOUNS paper
§ Make (or copy) slips of paper with nouns written on them.
Prerequisite Learning: Nouns
THE LESSON:
Introductory Activity -- Give each student a worksheet (with word bank). Students are to fill in the blanks with the appropriate word from the word bank.
Activity 1: Nouns, Nouns, Nouns
Step 1: Explain that nouns are people, places, or things.
Step 2: Give each student a paper with the word "NOUNS" at the top (with three labeled columns: people, places, and things). Also give them the slips of paper with nouns on them.
Step 3: Have the students paste the nouns under the proper column. Encourage cooperation.
Activity 2: Silly Sentences
Step 1: Give students a worksheet with 10 sentences with blanks where nouns belong.
Step 2: Have the students fill in each blank with a noun -- remind them of what nouns are. Encourage silly sentences.
Step 3: Each student will share one sentence with the class.
Challenge (Extension) Activity:
§ Using newspapers cut out more nouns to add to the noun chart.
§ Have students make up their own sentences with blanks where nouns belong for the class to fill out later. (Can possibly be used as an evaluation tool.)
Evaluation:
Students will fill in at least 8 out of 10 words correctly on the cloze worksheet with a word bank.
Students will correctly place at least 10 out of 12 nouns in their proper categories.
Students will use correct nouns in at least 9 out of 10 sentences on the second worksheet.
