Materials Required: craft sticks, markers
Activity Time: 15 minutes or less
Concepts Taught: vocabulary development

Make a set of "pick up sticks" by writing a word wall or vocabulary word on the back and front of a craft stick with a perm. marker. If I am reviewing 5 words, I write each word on two sticks to have a set of 10. Make enough sets for students to work in pairs. One partner holds the sticks up together and lets them go (as in "pick-up sticks.) He then tries to say a word and remove the stick without moving another stick. If he removes a stick successfully, he keeps it and continues. If he reads the word incorrectly or moves another stick, he loses his turn and his partner gets a chance. The student with the most sticks wins the game.
