#2310. Finger Twister

4 Blocks, level: Elementary
Posted Tue Jul 10 17:01:43 PDT 2001 by Carolyn Stewart (delanostewart@hotmail.com).
Ozark North Elementary, Ozark Missouri
Materials Required: Construction paper and list of word wall words
Activity Time: 15 minutes or less
Concepts Taught: vocabulary development

If your students like playing the floor game of Twister, they will enjoy this different “twist” on practicing word wall or vocabulary words. Trace several different sized circles onto a piece of construction paper, and run enough copies for each student to have one. This will become their desktop mat. Have students write a word wall word in each circle. Select a word, let’s use the word “try” for example, and call out instructions such as, “Right thumb on TRY.” Continue with other words, “Left pinkie on ONCE.” Students love getting their fingers all twisted up and hardly realize they are practicing their sight words.
