#2904. Brown Bear, Brown Bear

Literature, level: Kindergarten
Posted Thu Jul 31 20:26:43 PDT 2003 by Dawn (nutnbtluv4u@msn.com).
Anclote Elementary, Holiday, FL
Materials Required: pictures of each student
Concepts Taught: story innovation

As an added activity after reading Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr. I work with the class to make a story innovation. We use all the students in the class. I model writing the text on chart paper, pointing out spacing and letter sounds and recognizing childrens' names. I then type the text on the computer. I take a picture of each child and put together a class book. It's a fun way for kids to learn each others name . I end the story with either me or a class pet, if we have one that year. At the end of the year, I've raffled it off, along with other class books we've made. Except for ,my first class. I kept that one and it a wonderful keepsake after teaching Kindergarten for twelve years.
