Materials Required: Various selection of objects (eg. rock, cup, pen, jam jar etc). Shoe boxes. Blind fold
Activity Time: 1 hour

This was a lesson I participated in when on work experience. It is designed to help children "see" with thier hands and feet.
Split the class into approximatley six groups. Each group must have a selection of objects, a shoe box and a blidfold. This lesson should be taught somewhere where there is alot of room. Each group must have a different set of objects. The objects are placed one by one into the shoebox where the person that has been blindfolded must describe what the object feels like and then make a guess. Three of the six groups feel with thier hands while the other three groups feel with thier feet. PLEASE NOTE when I participated in this lesson the teacher advised that all pupils must remove thier shoes and "feel" the object with BAREFEET ONLY, as i was told that socks would give a false impressionof what the object was. The groups must change over every ten minutes. Make sure that there is a good selection of objects so that people who are recording the results for thier group dont know the answers when it is thier turn.
