#3320. Adjective game

Language, level: Middle
Posted Thu Jan 6 08:35:08 PST 2005 by Simon Wignall (swigna@hotmail.com).
Hoggetwowne Middle School, Gainesville, Florida U.S.A.
Materials Required: paper and pencils
Concepts Taught: Adverbs

Explain that an adjective is any word that modifies a noun or pronoun.
Divide the students into teams of about eight.
Have each student make up a sentence with at least four nouns in it.
Each paper is passed around the group until each person has added one adjective to each sentence.
Encourage students to make it funny. Discourage contradictory adjective combinations, like, “the pretty, ugly girl.”
Then have each team read out the sentences that were made.
Pick the best one and reward the winning team accordingly.
Winning sentence example. “The pretty girl wanted to grow up to be a good, buttered, professional, male baseball player.”
