Pickens Middle School, Pickens, SC US
Materials Required: self-portrait format, paper, pencil, white & black butcher paper, overhead projector, craft items
Activity Time: 1-2 days (one day in class and 1 day at home)
Concepts Taught: similes, adjectives, poetry writing

As apart of the self-portrait poem (#3340), you can use the butcher paper (any color really) to trace the outline of the student's head and shoulders. Use the overhead projector to enlarge the shadow/outline of the student. Make sure the student stands facing the paper so they won't be blinded! Depending on the size of your class you can do this for all your students or only those who request it. They can cut out their form and paste their completed poem they wrote on a separate piece of paper. It's fun to see them create and paint a portrait with words!
