Materials Required: 50 paper plates and a white board to keep score
Activity Time: 20 minutes a group
Concepts Taught: high frequency word mastery

This is a great game where students compete against themselves to beat the clock and "clear the table"
All you do is write 50 high frequency words onto paper plates and place them on a table. The students must read each word before they can pick it up. They race against the clock for one minute. When time is up, the students count the plates that they have cleared and record their score. The goal is to master fluency with the words to be able to read all within the allotted time. This can be remediated using letters and adapted to upper grade by using sentences, punctuation, vocabulary across the curriculum.
