East End Elementary School, Easley, USA
Materials Required: Overhead projector (optional - blackboard/whiteboard will do, paper, pencil, and crayons
Activity Time: 45 minutes approximately
Concepts Taught: Feeling good, brainstorming, writing and drawing

SUBJECT: Reading/Writing, Health

OBJECTIVE: TSW Feel good about self. The class will write and draw a picture about the student of the week.

PROCEDURE: The student of the week will bring in pictures of self on Monday morning. The pictures will go up with a sheet about basic information (name, family, pets, favorite food, favorite activity, and other information about self) about the "Star Student." The student will be able to share special things from home (toys, trophies etc.). The student will also be able to bring in a special snack. This is their week!

On Thursday, the class brainstorms about the "star student" (We use the overhead projector so everyone can see the writing.) This gives the class a chance to think about good characteristics about the student (we need good thoughts in today's world). After brainstorming, the class writes about the "star student" and draws a beautiful picture of the "star student" and themselves doing something. I remind the students to not forget the ground and the sky. People do not float in the sky. I also remind them about not drawing stick people. My assistant then compiles a beautiful keepsake book for the "star student." The "star student" has their picture that they drew of themselves and we date it as a memory.

I have heard raving reviews of this from many parents of my class.
