#3626. Popcorn word game

Reading/Writing, level: Kindergarten
Posted Mon Jan 30 08:44:04 PST 2006 by Kelly Dameron (damerokj@pickens.k12.sc.us).
Liberty Elementary School, Liberty, South Carolina
Materials Required: popcorn words written on cardstock paper - size around 2x3
Activity Time: 15 minutes
Concepts Taught: recognizing popcorn words

Create the sheets of cardstock to make a game of matching with popcorn words. The students have to turn over the cards to find a match. The can only take the match if they can correctly say the word.

This is a great way to encourage the students to read the words. When we started this game, one of my students told me she couldn't read. But she was about to recognize the words.

As the students recognize more words, change them out for harder, more advanced words that you have discussed in class.
