#3669. Simple Similes

Reading/Writing, level: Elementary
Posted Sun Feb 12 18:56:23 PST 2006 by Kim Satterfield (fiblet42@yahoo.com).
East End Elementary, Easley, SC
Materials Required: Writing paper, 4 6-7 inch circles for each child, brad fasteners
Activity Time: 30 minutes
Concepts Taught: Writing similes

The teacher will prepare four circles for each child. Two of the circles need to have a wedge cut out of it to show the words through the bottom. She will attach the circles directly on top of each other so that the one with the wedge cut out is on the top. The teacher will program the circles on the bottom, one with six or seven adjectives and the other with the same amount of nouns. The students will then use the adjectives and nouns to make similes. By having the nouns and adjectives given, students are able to focus more on their comparisons. This is the format I gave my students...The (noun) is as (adjective) as a ________.
