Literature, level: Senior
Posted Fri Apr 17 06:58:11 PDT 1998 by Karen Foster (fosters@scan.missouri.org).
Willow Springs R-IV, Willow Springs, Mo 65793
Materials Required: VCR
Activity Time: 30-40 minutes

Before introducing Twain's THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN, tape Leno or Lettermen's current monologue and have the students watch it and discover the different ideas that they are satirizing. Students will be amazed at what they poke fun of in those presentations. Let them write their own monologue, scenario, etc. of appropriate school satire. No running down of individuals is allowed. This helps them understand what Twain was satirizing in his writings.
