#4034. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

Reading/Writing, level: Kindergarten
Posted Sun Sep 9 07:12:54 PDT 2007 by Kim (kimmie51370@yahoo.com).
Centreville Elementary, Centreville, USA
Materials Required: coconut tree, letters in student's name, construction paper

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is such a wonderful book enjoyed by all children. We always use this book early in the kindergarten year. After reading, each child is given a coconut tree which they will color and cut out. They will then glue the tree onto a larger piece of construction paper. From a set of colorful letters, children will be instructed to find the letters in their name. After all letters are found they will glue their name going up the coconut tree. The children love this activity. It includes a lot of skills, from letter identification to fine motor.
Also--if your school has a subscription to United Streaming, the story is reinacted there and the children love it! They ask for it all school year. Enjoy!
