#435. JFK and MLK Jr.

History, level: Middle
Posted Fri May 15 10:40:15 PDT 1998 by Gretta Hug (ghug@sft434.k12.ks.us).
Carbondale Junior High, Carbondale, KS USA
Materials Required: newspaper, research resources
Activity Time: 40-50 minutes
Concepts Taught: knowledge of leaders from the 1960's

During a study of the 1960's students have written obituaries
for John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr. I have made
a transparency of an obituary from the newspaper. From that
example, we examined the format for this document, to see
placement for age, birthdate, hometown, etc. Then we looked
at the topics of the paragraphs for ideas of organization.
Research is then completed to gather the facts for the
obituary.
