#617. Shapes poem

other, level: Pre-School
Posted Sun Sep 6 14:45:01 PDT 1998 by Tammy Dryden (tammymatt@aol.com).
LaVergne Primary School, LaVergne, TN USA
Materials Required: shapes: circle, square, rectangle, triangle, diamond, oval.
Activity Time: depends
Concepts Taught: Learning how to draw & recognize shapes

I paste these rhymes on the back of my giant shapes and say them each time we talk about them. It also helps when they get ready to reproduce the shapes -- they just recite the rhyme as they are drawing!

CIRCLE, CIRCLE
Never ending.
Just like Mother's
Stack of mending.

RECTANGLE, RECTANGLE
Two short, two long.
Remember this rule
And you won't go wrong

SQUARE, SQUARE
Four that are even.
Three named Suzy
And one named Steven.

TRIANGLE, TRIANGLE
Has three sides.
In the corner
She always hides.

OVAL, OVAL
A circle stretched out.
Making it longer
That's what it's about.

DIAMOND, DIAMOND
Two V's put together.
You can do it all day
In all kinds of weather.
