#844. Spelling Practice

other, level: Elementary
Posted Tue Feb 9 22:31:48 PST 1999 by Kelli Travis (travisak@ptialaska.net).
Kotzebue Elementary School, Kotzebue, Alaska
Materials Required: whiteboards, markers, spelling list, shapes programmed with jobs
Activity Time: 20 minutes

Program shapes (I use apples) with teacher, speller, checker. Group children in threes. Each child takes on the role of teacher, speller and checker. The "teacher" then pronounces spelling words to the "speller". When they have completed the list, the "checker" corrects the "test". They then switch roles until they have taught, spelled and checked.

This is a great lesson for group cooperation and it is teaching using auditory, tactile and visual learning styles.
