Re: Deb: schedule constraints

I am in the same boat as Christy, except I have 45 minutes of whole
group and 45 min. of centers - required minutes, non-negotiable!!!!!
(HATE IT for SOOOOO many reasons - don't even get me started!)
We are implementing Treasures for the first time this coming year (we
have to get a new reading series every 5 years by state law) and
everyone says Treasures is the best in that it really addresses the 5
areas of reading AND language arts.
I am not even as far along as Christy in planning - I can't even decide
what parts to do and what parts not to do! Everything looks great, but
I couldn't possibly use all the reading, grammar, spelling, writing,
vocab, etc. they offer. I am overwhelmed by it all and I've been
teaching for 12 years, 11 of which have been with at least some 4B
implementation!!! YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I printed out a copy of each "thing" they offer for just the 1st week
of school - and holy cannoli it's a lot! However, I have to do a lot of
pencil paper stuff because 3rd graders must pass FCAT (state test) or
they are retained in 3rd grade by state law in FL. I have to say,
Treasures really does seem to have done a great job making the written
work as legitimate as possible and they also did a good job at making
different levels to use with different ability kids who each need
exposure to the 3rd grade curriculum.
Sorry to be long winded -- sort of freaking out a bit!!!
OY!
