Post: Interview question on Lucy Calkins Writing

    Posted by ShellyB on 11/19/08

Went to an interview where I was asked if I had used the
Lucy Calkins method. (Most schools here use 6 Traits)
I'm a bit confused by some of my followup on the web.
    Questions:
    1. Did Calkins "invent" Writer's Workshop? I have some
experience with that structure, but never saw any official
    Calkins materials.
    2. Does the Calkins method emphasize ONLY nonfiction/
"real life" writing? If so, I'd have to disagree with her
on that. I like chicldren to experience all the genres.
3.Lastly, this school uses 4 Blocks. How does Calkins
writing fit in with the writing block? With 6 Traits ideas?
Your comments are appreciated. I need to write my thank
you letter today and I wanted to followup on this topic.
    Thanks.
