Re: What's the difference between 6 traits & Writer's Worksh
Posted by Heather on 6/30/07

    Another example for you:

Writer's Workshop in my class is a 45 minute daily block of time
    dedicated to writing. I give a 10-15 minute mini-lesson on what I
want the kids to focus on in their writing, then I give about 20-
30 minutes for independent writing, and then 5-10 minutes for
    sharing.

The mini-lessons I teach during Writer's Workshop are based on the
    six traits.

For example, let's say I wanted to do a mini-lesson on how writers
get ideas (which is one of the six traits). I would present this
as a mini-lesson during Writer's Workshop in the first 10-15
minutes, and then allow time for independent practice.
