    When you said that you allow time for independent practice are you
    refering to working on a specific paper/essay OR just to free write
    being sure to incorporate what you taught in the mini lesson?

    I ask this because I am a second year teacher (5th ) and am in need
    of a better writing plan. I have done a little research on writers
    workshop but struggle with what to have the kids write.
